While making a hotkey and skillbar system I came across this. Links have screenshots

That's probably a target selection, i.e. you used an action that requires the player to select a target.

If you don't want to display this, disable Use Menu in Battle System > Battle Settings > Target Settings. You'll still have to select a target, e.g. by clicking on it (if enabled in the target selection settings).
Otherwise, you can set up your control map keys to automatically use the action on targets by using the auto target options.
