Fade screen excluding HUD and menus

Is there a way to fade screen to color but leave any hud or menu visible ?

    Yes, using Menus > GUI Layers.

    Enable Screen Fader on a GUI layer will show the fading after this layer, i.e. any layer after that (i.e. higher ID/index) will be displayed above the screen fader.
    Use a GUI layer above the screen fader in a GUI box that should be displayed above the fader.
