You'll find it where you have the "Equipment" menu option set up. Uncheck the Select Combatant option and it will automatically use the Player combatant.
So if you're using menu screens based on the tutorial, it would be in the Overview menu screen under the Button List that is used to populate the upper left panel of the menu screen.
