  • just posted it to steam and already accussed of stealing asssets
  • there not posting that your stealing assets there posting the fact that your flipping the assets in other words you put no time in reusing the assets but used the pre made scenes thats considered asset flipping.

and a side note not to sound mean or anything but its ok to use pre made scenes for prototyping but when your doing final version of your game its best to have all custom scenes made up theres nothing wrong with using the assets in the scenes but customize the scene so that it dosent look like the original. The gaming community is very big on creativity and not seeing the same stuff all the time . if you want to sell this game best to take a step back and redo your scenes. because as of now this game probably will not get greenlit. core mechanics are good but you have to remember people who play rpgs also look at your world. you should do a pre greenlit where you can show this off to the community to get feed back. itll help you alot ! its a great start and i wish you the best of luck :)

right, i spend a lot of time modifying each and every model i purchased on 3d model sites.
it doesn't hurt to spend quality time to tweak your model, don't forget that image speak for itself especially if you plan to showcase your game.

EDIT : well he really is accused :)

Hmm wait. While I'm agreeing with wtyson and Alex, on modifying asset to achieve original look, what's wrong of using asset you bought for your game? I'm asking so that I don't do anything stupid for my future game showcase. No offense intended OK?

First thing first, This is some characters and scene I done. Lightweight, simple, boxy and orthographic is what I aimed for my game.
    image

Then I saw this asset and instant buy! This could save me lots of time to shape up a few building for my outdoor scene! It fir my boxy style so much I don't think there's anything I should tweak of! Except the shop banner of course.
    image

And this is how it looks in my scene. It FIT so much in my style, and I specifically bought it for this purpose. Is this considering stealing?
    image

These asset contain only fbx model. If we're not allowed to used them after we bought it, then what's the reason we spent our dime on them?

Again, no offense intended. Just asking to clear out the confusion cloud in my mind.

P.S: I'm on the same side of commentor, your player is so small now the battle scene looks so bland. Maybe zoom in 50% and put more focal on your player, instead of dirt under her feet?

  • @Oneman its not the use of assets you can use them all you want its the reuse of premade scenes which is called asset flipping when you dont take the asset an make a new scene with it in your own way. ofc customizing the asset is good to. but dosent mean you cant use the fbx files in your project just the premade scenes

  • The assets you purchase are yours to use. It should just be remembered that they are on sale for everyone else too. The last thing you want is someone to look at your game and dismiss it because they have seen it before. You want them to try it first. Reorganize those scenes and make some minor changes to textures can go a long way in helping you create your own identity with your game.
You will always fail at what you do not try.

It seems it started out that asset flipping referred to using Unity game demos as your own-- like using Penelope and selling it in the asset store as your own game. Now it's broadened to include using scene demos-- without changing them at all.

As robahouston, Alex1234 and wtyson say -- just make some minor changes.

It can get confusing because quoting from a VERY big asset seller who advertises----" All screenshots taken from the 24 included, READY TO USE demo scenes" sort of implies you can use them as is. I added the capital letters to emphasize.

But they won't take the heat if you use them ready to use, you will. There's no warning to newbie game makers that you'll get blasted for using them.

I like to create my own scenes but just tweak them if you want to use them or be brave and gently defend the fact that you paid for the right to use everything you paid for including the demo scenes and every asset in your bundle. But be prepared for a kick in the pants from critics.

Easier maybe to tweak things. :)
