Hi All - Thought I'd like to show you the first Level of the above-mentioned Game. I was not very happy with the YouTube Representation of the Game File, looks out of focus and crap.

The larger version shown on my TV looks great !!!. A big thank you must go to Gil for his patience and help.

  • There are a lot of things I like about your game play. Is it turn-based? I like the graphics. I originally started watching it in small screen so have to watch it again in large screen but I think you did a good job. I really like the camera movements. It makes it more immersive for third-person.
  • ok few things i noticed while watching the vid some of the animations are not firing off right away. your demon slid across the ground. some of the houses have a interaction to go in while others dont (not sure if this is intentional) particle effect for cutting wood was a spark as if metal hitting metal. dialog needs work(uninteresting dialog will cause complaints even if its just quest dialog ). the lumbermill water wheel seemed jerky(might be from the recording not sure). all in all great start though i know i might sound nit picky but im very particular about the little things. once you start polishing the world and giving it more atmospheric effects it will look amazing :). good job and good luck

wtyson, thanks for your appraisal, it's true a lot of the house entry's are incomplete
the game is still a work in progress. I noted your comment on the uninteresting dialogue.

As far as the jerkiness of the animations, could be the internet or just the programme I
used to capture the game play.

    Catacomber:

The first NPC, the Wizard is REAL TIME, the rest are TURN BASED, sometimes the Wizard
doesn't die so quickly, and spurts out Fire as well as water, and gives my player a hard
time, but each game start is different, as it should be.

Regarding the Sparks in the Tree, in Australia we have Tree's called Iron Bark Tree's: LOL

  • I really liked the camera movements. I do basically first person games because my players like the immersiveness of first person.

But your camera movements gave me a similar immersive experience in many places.
  • just a quick note on something i found while browsing the asset store https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/en/#!/content/36555 its all well and good to use assets from the store as long as you make an original scene with them. people frown upon asset flipping which is the reuse of premade scenes . so if you plan to stick your game up on steam i would highly suggest making a whole new town scene there unless its just a place holder then ignore me :P but this is just advice as well so up to you weather or not you take it or not :)

  • hi ozziedave!

    Good work!

First I must totally agree with Catacomber here... I really think those camera movments made your turn based fighting a ton more interesting. So keep working with that too.

Also I must agree with wtyson to advice you to avoid asset flipping as he explained to you, since people have been bashed HARD on steam for doing that. For your notice I can tell you that I have been using some stuff indeed when it comes to the Medieval Environment Pack myself too ;)

Keep up with the work! Looks good sofar!

I imagine you did that scene reuse just for fast prototyping. Not that you'd actually use it in a final game. But be thankful for people here watching out for you and the success of your final game.

As everybody says developers have been bashed hard and viciously --also on Touch Arcade for re-using pre-made scenes. Some of the commenters there seem to know the Unity Asset Store assets inside out. One person there, since banned for rudeness, actually said 'Don't buy this game' for some game I forget which one. And some people commenting on Steam have bashed games for using Unity assets--but if you use assets from various providers like Mr. Necturus and Dexsoft etal and construct your scenes, who can tell?

As I said, I imagine that was just a quick thing for fast prototyping. Everything looks like it's going along well.

Watching the video again, I love his little hop of victory. : ) I really like the music. I love the female npc also--is that a Unity asset? : ) I love where your game is going and look forward to seeing you continue development.
