UGUI Mouse Over Selection - inconsistent behavior

If I set my GUI Box > Height Adjustment to Scroll, everything works perfectly; hover selections are smooth and fast. But if I set Height Adjustment to None or Auto then selections register less than half the time I mouse over something and seem to lag even when they do register. Any ideas why this could be happening?

I'll need more details on your settings:
- are you using new UI or legacy GUI
- GUI box bounds of the content box
- where is it used, dialogue, menu, etc.
- how many choices are displayed, are they exceeding the displayed content area
