Formation in battle spots

Is it possible to have battle formations in battle as a starting point?
Quick look shows that you can randomize it or have advantage battle spots, and I'm going to assume that I'm thinking it is used when a chance is chosen and give you those spots.
But is it possible to do formations?
IE, in the player menu, the player can choose their formation, and that would be their starting battle spots. And able to change outside of battle, for the next battle. And added bonus, maybe. Breath of Fire 3 is a good example of what I'm thinking of.
