What is Phase Battles?

I've looked through the tutorials and searched the forums but found no info, so what is phase battles? Is there some documentation on them that I missed if so please give me link!

    It's like Fire Emblem where allies perform actions during a phase, then enemies perform actions in the next phase.

    It's basically a turn based battle, but all different factions participating in the battle will perform their actions in their own phase and the player can freely choose the order in which combatants are allowed to act.
