Status Development with Formula

I'm trying to drive the develop of a status value with a formula. I'm a bit confused why I have to give it a "Start Value". Can I just have the start value driven by the same formula at level one?

    The formula is only used on level up to calculate the value that's added to the status value. So, the Start Value is needed to have something to start from (even if you just use the minimum value the stat can have).

    If you want to completely drive a stat by a formula, use the Combined Value option in the status value's settings.
