I've been banging my head for a while and it seems I can't figure out why the footstep sounds aren't playing :( my first guess is that the raycast doesn't recognize the sprites somehow...I'm sure it's me but I can't find where the problem is coming from :(. Maybe you guys can help me out...I'll attach some screenshots to better describe the issue. Basically everything is set up correctly (I think) but the sprites aren't detected by the Footstepper. for example, if in the Footstepper options, if I assign a fallback material and check "No Raycast Fallback) everything plays nice, that's why I thought is something I'm missing regarding detecting the sprites in the tile map.
With No Raycast Fallback enabled, the footsteps are played even if the raycast didn't hit anything. If the fallback isn't played when this is disabled, the issue is your raycast isn't hitting anything when it's played.
With the footstepper's game object selected, you can see the raycast as a red line in the scene view (or during play in game view with gizmos enabled), that can show you if it's placed correctly and the distance is high enough.

Tried this again.. apparently the Faalback Material sounds are playing even if No Raycast Fallback is unchecked, so the Raycast is hitting something... I also tried to find the reference of the materials in the scene and everything is showed... the thing is that this is happening only for the Tilemap Source.. if I play with other types of Sources everything works like a charm.. so the problem should be on my Tilemap.. but what?
If you're up for it, you can send me a test project to check out (documentation is for ORK 3, but also valid for Footstepper).
