I am exploring the possibility of integrating a Third Party Controller with Makinom and would like to know if this is feasible. My goal is to use a third-party controller (which is already quite comprehensive and robust) to manage character movement and basic actions, while using Makinom to create game systems, including how the character interacts with the world.

I would like to know:

- Is it possible to configure Makinom to work in conjunction with a third-party controller?
- What are the recommended steps to set up this integration?
- Is there any documentation or specific examples on how to integrate third-party controllers with Makinom?
- Are there any limitations or special considerations I should be aware of when attempting this integration?

Thank you in advance for your help and guidance. I am looking forward to utilizing Makinom's capabilities alongside a controller that I am already familiar with.
  • Sure, that shouldn't be an issue.

You can also let Makinom know about those custom controls and have it automatically enable/disable the control component based on the player or camera control state in Makinom. This can be set up in Base/Control > Game Controls in the Player Settings > Control Behaviours.
There's more details in this ORK documentation about custom controls, but the setup is part of Makinom, so it's also valid for Makinom only use cases.

Not really. Though, if you're using interactions (e.g. Interaction Machines), you still need an interaction controller setup.

  • I can't find Player Settings > Control Behaviours. In Makinom, this setup is on Control Machines?
    (I'm using Makinom 1)
  • Makinom 1 doesn't have that feature.
You can use a schematic to enable/disable components, e.g. via a Tick Machine that's checking if game controls are blocked or not.
