Here is a first very early (and not Unity Pro enchanced) showing of the RPG i am working on.

Started on XNA 4+ years back, moved to Unity 2.5 years back and i am close (wishfull thinking :) ) to a first draft of a demo. Still lots of work has to be done on combat features, adventure and quest features, menus, battle design, characters and interaction/cut scenes etc.

And the Unity Forum thread with all the info, it is where i keep a blog about the game.

ORK is definitly one of the most important factors in the development, if not the most important by far :).

I also make heavy use of the two assets i have in the store, Particle Dynamic Magic and GI Proxy (not shown in pics), for the spell effects and lighting, so essentially the development of the two packs also helped me have some stunning complex effects that i have complete control over and organize the systems like i would never have done probably if i created them one by one.

I was just looking at your game too, amazing work. The houses remind of FF9, which is one of my most favourite titles.

I know the feeling, I have bought more than 3000$ assets in the store, i could not help myself :). I had no idea it had gone that high as well, when i did the sum i was rather surprised (well, shocked would be more accurate i guess).

That is one of the reasons i decided to gather some of the systems i had created for the game and put them on the store, to fund buying the assets i need :) and cut a bit on the losses, plus fund Unity Pro later.

I also realized that having quality assets for other developers to use is as satisfying as making my game :), so i will keep doing it with more stuff.

My job is also totally irrelevant to gaming, i am a post doc in computational biology :)

I usually work the game at nights and weekends and only summer allows for more heavy development.

As for assets, i am almost done buying myself as well, i need something for the sky (day-night cycle) and only a few others to complete the needs for the game

I am very confused as to what to get for the sky tbh :)

Unistorm is indeed one of the choices and looks very good, the other is Time of Day and there are two more WIP that could be nice.

Time of Day has the perk that uses a dome, so it can overide the Skyshop sky and i will be able to use it along with Skyshop.

Does Unistorm also use a dome btw ? Or it directly changes the Unity sky ?

  • unistorm uses a dynamic sky so i think it is but i dont know how well itll work if things get changed havent really played with it much

  • Thanks

Hopefully i will find something that will work in my setup :), the problem is that both Unistorm and Time of Day are rather expensive, so i cant afford getting the wrong one.
  • On mobile, complicated sky systems don't work well--they slow down the game so I usually use a skybox that looks like it could be nightish or dayish. : )

    Nice screenshots here. Very lovely.
  • Thanks :), i will try to post the final look of the game as soon as possible too, this is just early pics and not in the most detailed areas either, so expect a night and day difference in the final graphics and artistic detail.

The fixed camera helps a lot to that end.

I am waiting until i am close to finilizing the demo, then i will enable Unity Pro trial and have a pass of image effects to complete the visuals and at that point i would make an official announcement and hopefully start a kickstarter with it.
  • What did you use for the ground?
  • edited November 2014
The ground is custom made, with the standard Unity terrain tools. I plan to implement RTP 3 pack in the final version though. I am not sure how well that will fit the fairy take atmosphere yet, since the more plain look is already close to what i wanted it to look like. So it is a try and see with RTP.
