Hey there!

I'm Yonni--a digital artist who's trying her hand at game design, a bit of programming and making something exciting.

I just finished my initial setup of the 2D RPG Quick Setup to familiarize myself with ORK 3 and Makinom! They're absolutely amazing and a dream for someone like me. I'm now moving onto configuring my setup to suit its true purpose: a yokai-inspired farming sim with heavier RPG elements, and a real-time aRPG combat system that's similar to Legend of Zelda (with magical flair).

Is it feasible to follow along with the 3D Action RPG and pick apart what I'd need in that tutorial, keeping the 2D aspects in mind? Also, the shops, crafting, quest log of the 3D RPG Playground tutorial? I just want to make sure that I'm not breaking something in the process.

Any and all direction is appreciated.
  • @Yonniboi Welcome! ORK is a great framework and I think it'll definitely be able to help you achieve everything your dream game.

Yes, you shouldn't run into any issue doing that as long as you make the necessary adjustments where rec, and that's usually the path I recommend to people too (2D/3D Quickstart to get familiar, then look into the specific ones to pull into yours)
  • Yes - the features used by the 3D action RPG series are also used for 2D action games, just using 2D versions of colliders/rigidbodies.
The rest works the same, e.g. using damage dealers/zones, activating them via the ability's schematics, etc.

  • Awesome! Ya'll are the best, thank you for the quick responses! I'll definitely be sticking around and looking forward to new implemented features (and sharing my progress when I've got more to show).
  • I've done this quite a few times with previous projects, so If you have any questions about setups I might be able to help!
  • Hey @twill14! I might actually have a question. I got a bit turned around on editing animations via the Animation Controller, and Makinom's mecanim animations, in an attempt to create 2D weapon swing animations / watering / pickaxe use, etc. Should I only be adding animations via Makinom + schematics and leaving the controller alone?

I was following along the 3D Action RPG tutorials (which are great), but had some troubles trying to implement some things into 2D.

    :) Much appreciated.
  • You need to set up your animations in your Mecanim controller. ORK/Makinom simply play animations that are set up there, so the setup in ORK/Makinom has to match the controller's setup (e.g. playing by state name or by setting parameters).
