Super Not So Secret (Working Title) RPG (SNSSRPG for short, cause...lazy) is a little project I've been working on the past year-ish during my free time, making extensive use of the ORK2 Framework. ORK seriously puts to shame most of the propriety dev tools I've used over the years, and I can't image where I'd be if I had to code all this by myself. Yay ORK!

In a nutshell it's a basic homage/parody of 90's era JRPGs, that attempts to poke some fun at stereotypes in both the genre and the industry as a whole - basically all the stuff I can't get away with at my day job.

Demo v1.1 is Up!

There's a new version of the downloadable demo on my site, and it would be super awesome if anyone had the time to provide some feedback, either here or on the report forms there. :)

v1.1 fixes a bunch of stupid stuff, adds in some new functionality with the player renamer, graphics settings, and has a big fix to the job system so it saves and recalls AP earned correctly.

Strawpoll for an Actual Name (not this goofy working title)

~Half-Priced Heroics
~Bargain-Bin Heroics
~Half-rate Heroes
~Discount Hero Quest
~Amateur Hero Hour
~Budget-line Heroes

Any other suggestions? :)

  • I wondered about that too as a rabbit lover but just assumed they're evil rabbits. : ) Maybe they ate all the carrots and lettuces in the farms and threaten a famine in the village? : )

    Exterminate them!

i dont know there wearing jackets. what if they were surrounded by a bunch of village kids who tormented them an forced them to wear these jackets which in turn made the rabbits lash out at the world causing them to turn evil but in reality all they really want is for the jackets to be removed an for some one to love them. :P

@Firrerreo sorry i gave your rabbits a back story

Well the pink hearts the heroes seem to be casting might mean the Rabbits have something wrong with them and the heroes are trying to cure them and turn them good. : ) Or kill them with love. I think the rabbits are wearing jackets because they are humanized monsters. Exterminate them.

Anyway it looks interesting and obviously the screenshot is tempting. Dying to know what's going on. : ) Love rabbits. : )

  • Haha, I had no idea the rabbits were going to be such a source of contention. :) I swear I also like bunnies too - I have no deep-seated agenda against the tiny little furballs regardless of what that poorly chosen screenshot suggests.

Yeah, sorry about the lack of Mac support. :c I need to get around to acquiring one for ports and just haven't done it yet.

  • Updated the main site and the front post with some new screenshots and videos. Whee for progress, albeit slow progress.

I'm going to try and make a new build of the demo within the next few days - both to fix a couple of silly bugs some testers have found and to add that new player namer feature in.

  • Very beautiful graphics, especially the farm.
  • Thanks. Been trying to get better at world building, since the arts aren't my strong point.

  • Finally updated the main site with some progress pics and a tiny post - this time with a little circus zone where a lot of truly terrible mini-games will be hosted by creepy carnies.

Should have an update to the demo in the next week or so too, with some added functionality and a couple of bug fixes. Figure I'll update the main first post here with all that info once it's uploaded.

I might also have a real name soon instead of the overtly goofy working title. Yay!

  • Beautiful graphics. Looking forward to the demo. Circus zone sounds intriguing!

Not sure how I've avoided commenting on your project until now; it's looking great, particularly that city cutscene. It reminds me a lot of several of the forgotten JRPG gems that popped up in the middle of the PS1's lifecycle.

I think the UI/HUD could use some help as it is now, but the environment stuff is looking good and consistent.

  • Heh, the UI needs a little bit more than "some help". :) Functionally, it's like 80% of the way I'd want it, but aesthetically it's pretty much all photoshop-paintbucket placeholder/1st pass right now. After I finish the latest round of demo testing/updating I've got a mountain of art that needs to be made. I should probably re-prioritize UI-mockups slightly higher on the list.

In the millenial fair in chrono trigger I think you can get to a different time period. : ) What are the rewards in your games? : ) Any secret area?
