Try changing sprite material to the oblique. If this won't work, then using nodes recreate standard sprite shader.

Have an empty object in the scene and add npc component to it. This way you can have it as an actor. You could also have npc invisible and turn him visible during cutscene. There is a node for that.

Tried it,it works. I would advise to have a button that lets you swim faster, with current swim speed it would be a pain to play through a big level.

Are slimes characters, seems to open grounds for a very interesting discussion :) What about "characters & monsters"? Then I would call this system a "party wide/ based initiative system".

I don't think there ever was something as an official name for such a thing. Status values in Ork are so encompassing part of a system that I think most people would just refer to them as numerical values. I would recommend you leave it as it is. …
