Does anyone have any experience of the general workflow for using a program like Photoshop and bringing in the 2D art for Unity2D? The internet is lacking with information on this one and most of the stuff out there is outdated. Thanks!
Well relenting, after seeing some of this stuff I'm left considering switching my art style from 2d vector type art to pixel. ARG! I've always loved good pixel games, especially ones done by good artists. They just make you feel good. Do you have a workflow for Pyxel Edit to Unity?
Hmmm good question. All 2D art is a form of pixelart styled graphics it just depends on the resolution. Smaller the pixels = smoother the graphics
Anyways Pyxel Edit is no Photoshop but for just one flat fee of $9 it's a pretty powerful program for 2D art.
Or if you don't want to keep paying the subscription fee for Photoshop I switched over to Affinity Designer which is one flat fee of $49 ***Note it is Currently only for Mac*** https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/designer/ I do like Photoshop but the subscription was killing me and this is a really awesome alternative.
Or if you already have 3D models and want sprites made from them in Unity itself you could give these assets a try;
Thanks! Went ahead and purchased it. Actually it looks like PE could handle what I want and if I decide to go in a different direction, it could handle that too. Do you have any knowledge on the workflow between PE and Unity? Is it pretty straightforward to get Characters/Sprite Sheets and tilesets into Unity?
Once you have a sprite sheet made out and there is no glitches or flaws, just remember the size of the tiles you made each sprite in for example I made each of my NPC characters sprites here relenting1.wix.com/nathanielk#!NPC Jurassica/zoom/cwvn/dataItem-io61vhd8 on a canvas with 32 wide by 42 high tiles and you can adjust this as needed and change the size of the canvas to whatever many tiles you need for animating.
Then once you have a sheet like the example but with a transparent background you can export the sheet as a png then import it to unity by dragging it in from where ever it was exported to into Unity
Thanks so much for your time and thorough answers! Pouring over videos as we speak. I really appreciate your input, as it's hard to find the information that's not outdated on this subject matter. And i'm usually pretty good at finding stuff. Looking forward to showing some stuff off soon!
Yeah I've been collecting resources for about 2 years now on everything I need to make a game, so I know what you mean trying to find useful tutorials.
pyxeledit.com/get.php
it is much simpler for 2D sprite development and you can even see your animations prior to bringing them into unity
Then watch some of these tutorials by Chrispher to get a grasp of how it works https://youtube.com/watch?v=7iHm0QZIDWY
Hope this helps =]

I used this tutorial https://youtube.com/watch?v=VG7uZAwZW2o to help me get an idea of how sprites and unity work
I then just followed tutorials like these to get stuff moving;
