It might be a minor error such as your combatant's on the map does not have the proper component on to allow them auto join. Check your combatant's on the map if they are properly configured with components.
Go to Combatants Menu, combatants tab, and scroll all the way down to Animations & Movement. Change system type to Mecanim, Animations chose your mecanim setup Base/Control Menu, Animations. Then disable use battle.

Okay, I believe you have your character configuration all backwards, LoL!
Go to your character fbx file and re-rig your character and adjust the rotation of it so its facing the right way.
Hmmmm... This is interesting. I tried to mimic your problem in my project but with no luck. However, I did get it to mimic when I miss around with the windows volume control to lower only unity application volume.
